It answers the phone when you can't.

You're spending time with your family and the phone rings. If you don't pick up, they call someone else. So Sam picks up for you. Sam is the assistant, and it answers as your business.

Thursday, 6:40pm

Caller: My furnace died last night. House is freezing.

Sam: I can get someone out to you at 8 tomorrow morning. What's the address?

By 6:41 it was in your calendar and the details were in your inbox.

What it does on a call

It picks up right away, whatever time it is. Two in the morning on a Sunday, it still answers.

It knows what you do and who you do it for. If someone wants something you don't offer, it says so politely instead of putting them in your calendar.

It checks your calendar is actually free before it books anything, so you don't end up in two places at once.

Then it emails you. Who called, what they want, and when they're booked in. Usually before you've finished what you were doing.

Getting started

  1. 1

    Forward the calls you miss

You keep the number you already advertise. You just tell your phone company to send unanswered calls our way.

  2. 2

    Fill in a short form

What you do, what you don't take on, the areas you cover, your hours. Ten minutes, once.

  3. 3

    That's it

It starts answering. You'll know it's working when the first summary shows up in your inbox.

Do I need a new number?
No. Keep the one you already advertise. Nothing changes for your customers.
Will it wake me up for nothing?
Only if you ask it to. Normally it takes a message and you deal with it in the morning.
Can I call it something else?
Yes. Sam is just what it's called until you rename it.
What calendar does it use?
Google Calendar. You connect it once when you sign up.
How long does setup take?
Fifteen minutes or so, and most of that is the form.

Try it on yourself first

Put your name and number in, then call the line. It'll answer as your business. Be an awkward customer if you want, that's the point.
